At Milan Fashion Week in September, Moncler and Pharrell invited 5,000 guests to party in the courtyard of Portrait Milano to celebrate the latest glamping-inspired collection. How did a brand that started out making sleeping bags for mountaineers in a small Alpine village come to dominate fashion weeks around the world?

Moncler has long bridged the gap between fashion and performance wear, but it wasn’t until Remo Ruffini became CEO in 2003 that collabs with designers like Junya Watanabe and Nicolas Ghesquiere ramped up the brand’s high fashion cred. And last year, Moncler celebrated its 70th birthday with a party of 18,000 guests in Milan’s Duomo Square as well as a touring exhibition that began at Frieze London before heading to New York, Seoul and Tokyo. These anniversary celebrations have made the brand as well known for their fashion week extravaganzas as for their Michelin Man style puffer jackets.
