Trends, trends, trends, what are they good for? Many people pride themselves on not following trends or being immune to the neverended seesaw of fashion, but trends help shape culture and history. Their impact stretches far beyond our individual choices. Cue the cerulean belt scene from The Devil Wears Prada. Predicting trends has become a cottage industry in its own right on TikTok, where creators forecast upcoming fashion trends with varying degrees of qualification and accuracy. As we speed towards the new year, 2024 trend predictions are everywhere, whether it’s coming from semi-ironic in and out lists or professional trend forecasting agencies.

The argument against trends is a valid one. Most of us already have far too many clothes and, as the trend cycle increases its rapid pace, new trends can be an excuse for fast fashion hauls. When our depleted attention spans have finally been worn out, we’ll still have to get dressed in the morning. That’s when wardrobe classics you can fall back on come in. So, whether you want to blend in in Gen X soft club neutrals or show off the legs that January gym membership will give you, whether you’re in your cosy, twee era or you’re on more of a corporate hustle vibe for 2024, here are five feel good fashion trend predictions for the new year, no matter your personal style.
