A few months ago, my Instagram was popping off with photos of stars on stage: Paul Mescal in A Streetcar Named Desire, Andrew Scott in Vanya, Paapa Essiedu and Taylor Russell in The Effect. The cool, cultured people on my following list — who always know what’s on, where and when before us commoners — posted cheeky photos of celebrities taking their final bows or worse, selfies with them outside the theatre. By the time I caught wave of the news, most shows were either sold out or too spenny to catch.

So of course, I bitched and moaned, and prepped for the future. If a famous person is coming to the West End, I have it dated, scheduled and budgeted for in the calendar. Now you can do the same — here are 7 shows in London that are brilliant and star a celebrity. A friendly reminder to not pull out your phone until the very end of the play <3

Charithra Chandran in Instructions for a Teenage Armageddon

Bridgerton Season 2’s diamond is now on West End. In this spectacular solo show, Chandran explores the vulnerability and angst of being a teenager. The coming-of-age story uncovers grief, sexual assault, eating disorders and self-harm with brutal honesty and sharp sarcasm. It feels like you’re in a teenager’s bedroom and in their brain.

Where: Garrick Theatre

When: March 17 to April 28

Brian Cox and Darryl McCormack in Long Day's Journey Into Night
Brian Cox and Darryl McCormack in Long Day’s Journey Into Night

Yet another highly anticipated adaptation of Eugene O’Neill’s family drama stretched out over one day and four acts; only this iteration may as well roll out a red carpet and paparazzi. Brian Cox, Patricia Clarkson, Darryl McCormack and Laurie Kynaston come together in this brilliant, nerve wracking play about money, morphine and relationships. Let’s at least try to get our eyes off of them and on the plot x

Where: Wyndham Theatre

When: March 19 to June 8

Cara Delevingne in Cabaret
Cara Delevingne in Cabaret

Turns out Delevingne is not only a star on the runway and on screen, but she can also sing. Watch her transform into Miss Sally Bowles, the highly bred Chelsea girl who escapes to Berlin to perform at the Kit Kat Club. Expect high octane drama, costumes you want to run your hands over and tempting, sinister thrill.

Kedar Williams-Stirling in Red Pitch

Remember Sex Education’s ace swimmer turned stage actor Jackson Marchetti? Well, Williams-Stirling who played Marchetti seems inspired by his on-screen character. The actor stars in Terrell Williams’ play about three Black teens, aspiring footballers and friends as they navigate a shot at making their dreams come true. It’s enthralling, emotional and painfully real. Oh and you don’t have to know anything about football to devour it.

Where: Soho Place

When: March 15 to May 4

Sarah Snook in The Picture of Dorian Gray

This has to be manifestation. As fans struggle to fill the Succession shaped hole in their lives, the stars continue to bless us with stage shows. Snook takes on 26 characters (!) in this West End adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s eccentric and beloved tale. A rumination of beauty like no other, this play is manic, immaculate and absolutely unmissable.

Where: Theatre Royal Haymarket

When: Feb 6 to May 11

Sam Tutty in Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)

With this musical, be prepared to experience an enthralling, toe-tapping production full of catchy tunes and starry eyes in. Dear Evan Hansen’s Tutty plays Brit Dougal, a stranger who arrives in New York and navigates a tender romance with a jaded city girl. It’s full of butterflies, little laughs and relatable chaos.

Where: Criterion Theatre

When: April 1 to June 22

Tom Holland in Romeo & Juliet

Need we say more? Holland will soon be on West End as Shakespeare’s love struck Romeo adapted by Jamie Lloyd. While the show is currently sold out, Reddit sleuths are convinced more tickets are landing soon. If all else fails, perhaps we can chance our luck with a starry Holland spotting outside the theatre. Stay tuned.
