After four weeks of crazy runway moments, viral fashion memes and spotting celebs on the Frow, fashion month finally wrapped up in Paris today. As wearied fashion editors drag themselves back to their home cities, it’s time to reflect on some of this season’s biggest trends. A lot of the time, runway fashion is a theatrical spectacle – Bella Hadid in a spray-on dress, anyone? But just because it’s unlikely we’ll be spraying on our clothes or wearing Loewe’s giant anthurium floral tops by next Spring, that doesn’t mean we can’t pick up some real-life style inspiration from the runway all the same.

This season, fashion toughened up with biker jackets, utility wear and distressed denim stomping down the runway, from Kanye’s heavy-duty motocross-meets-military look at Balenciaga to Diesel’s skimpy bleached and battered denim and leather co-ords. Elsewhere, Y2K mania was still out in full force with low-rise denim, micro-minis and Barbie pink strutting out more times than we can count, notably at Versace, Blumarine and Knwls.

Before the latest collections even drop in stores, here are the standout trends from the SS23 shows and where to buy them now, so you can up your wardrobe game and stay ahead of the trends.

BIG ON BEIGE

Garbstore
£$97.50

Channel this season's utilitarian trend with Garbstore’s Gilras Jacket, a new zip through piece for Spring Summer, crafted with a neat stand collar, asymmetrical large chest pockets with flaps, and a pen pocket. It's made from pure cotton with a boxy fit, including a brass talon zip fastening, press stud adjuster on the pockets, cuffs and hem and is complete with metal side adjuster in contrasting heavy duty nylon webbing.

BACK TO BASICS

SYLK
£$85.00

This season suits came in leather, sequins and suede, but you still can't beat a classic pinstripe suit. Pick yours up from a vintage reseller for a laidback oversized fit. The more it looks like you stole it from your dad's wardrobe the better.

SHIFT INTO GEAR

Vintage Harro Boxy Moto Jacket

Nordic Poetry
£$259.00

Buckle up, because biker style has zoomed in. Of course, you don’t need to actually be a biker to wear this trend. Just throw on a thrifted moto jacket, like this one from Nordic Poetry, and shift into gear. Whether you’re channelling Balenciaga’s head-to-toe leather looks or taking a more balanced approach as GmbH’s Serhat Isik and Benjamin Huseby did at Trussardi, it’s time slip on some leather and live out your bad boy fantasies.

DOUBLE DENIM

The Harper Skirt

The Harper Skirt

Peachy Den
£$100.00

It’s time to channel Justin and Britney or, to use a 2022 example, Julia Fox and Kanye at Paris Men’s Fashion Week last January. The SS23 runway was all about doing double, whether that’s with literal identical twins at Gucci and Sunnei or with denim co-ords at Off-White, Diesel, Stella McCartney and Masha Popova. Pair this Peachy Den wrap denim mini skirt with the matching Harper Vest for a look that could have stepped straight off the SS23 runway. Snap up the Harper Jeans to double up on double denim with your partner/sister/best friend because when it comes to this season’s denim, it’s definitely a case of the more the merrier.

POCKETS FOR DAYS

Explorer Brown Cargo Jean

The Ragged Priest
£$70.00

Fashion and function were of equal importance this season. At Balenciaga, Ottolinger and GmbH, deep pockets provided ample space for storing belongings while adding an edgy utilitarian mood that’s both practical and wearable. These multi-pocket wide-leg cargo jeans from The Ragged Priest are sure to get worn time and time again.

THINK PINK

Birth Of The Cool Sweater Pinkypie

Howlin
£$159.00

You could blame it on Barbiecore, or maybe love is in the air at the moment, but shades of pink and love heart motifs popped up time and time again this season, whether at Nensi Dojaka, Vivetta or Acne Studios. Translate a touch of soft romance to your wardrobe with Howlin’s 100% wool ‘Pinkypie’ jumper. Sincerity is sexy.

SUNSET HUES

Maye Dress

Motel Rocks
£$23.10

Sunset hues at Ferragamo and Courrèges took inspiration from artist Rachel Harrison’s ‘Sunset Series’ and beach raves, respectively. Meanwhile, Valentino, Balenciaga and Aniye Records served block red looks. Be the sky with this Motel Rocks mini dress, perfect for matching the sunset on your next trip away or saving until Spring/Summer 2023 actually arrives.
