On the 10th anniversary of Channel Orange, Frank Ocean released two new episodes of Blonded Radio on Apple Music 1.
The first is titled “blonded Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds”, where Ocean interviews Dr James Fadiman, author of Psychedelic Explorer's Guide: Safe, Therapeutic, and Sacred Journeys and co-founder of Sofia University. The soundtrack is a 35-minute instrumental score that Ocean produced himself, the pair talk all things microdosing.
Episode 013, “blonded ENERGY!”, follows a conversation between Ocean and Master Mingtong Gu about self-realisation and Qi Gong, which is an ancient Chinese meditation and healing practise. Like the last, this episode is also backed by a stunning instrumental from the elusive musician.
These welcome new Blonded episodes are the first since last Christmas, which featured a similar chat between Ocean and the Dutch motivational speaker Wim “Iceman” Hof alongside a 9 minute song. Known for his ability to withstand incredibly low temperatures, Hof is a champion of cold water-based therapies for your mental and physical wellbeing. His work – the ‘Wim Hof method – inspired many to try ice bath therapy, which one of Woo’s gave a good go of recently.
Ocean updated his website with new Blonded Radio t-shirts and a poster to celebrate the anniversary of his much acclaimed album Channel Orange.
Last summer, he spread his wings further from music, when he launched a luxury jewellery and accessories line called Homer, named partly after the Greek poet: “Homer is considered the father of history and history is meant to endure – the same as diamonds and gold – and I know Homer used papyrus, but I’ve always liked the idea of carving history into stone,” he explained at the time.
Since his last album blonde dropped in 2016, he has released a number of bangers since then, including singles ‘DHL’ and ‘In My Room’. He also released ‘Cayendo’ and ‘Dear April’ on streaming services, as prior to this the tracks were vinyl exclusives.
What’s next? A lot, it seems. He is rumoured to play at Coachella 2023, and it’s been reported that he will be directing his debut movie.
