Individualistic street style was the highlight of Barcelona Fashion Week 2024

In case you’re wondering, yes there really is a (very cool) fashion week in Barcelona and nope, you’re not the only one who’s late to this information. 080 Barcelona Fashion Week just wrapped up its 33rd edition at the Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau, a modernist monument turned hospital turned fashion show venue. Before you raise an eyebrow, it was actually the most stunning, fuss-free show location I’ve ever attended. And the best part? Everyone knows where it is.

Let’s break down why that matters. The big four fashion weeks – New York, London, Milan and Paris – are globally known but offer supremely limited access. Most show locations are a sacred, carefully guarded secret that only a handful of insiders (and Reddit sleuths) are privy to. In contrast, BFW feels inclusive in its honesty and openness. All the shows are at one location, and the incredible street style on offer reflects this excitement to be involved.

People aren’t afraid to stand out, experiment and show off their hyper individualistic sartorial inspirations. Black tape wrapped on as a top, an explosion of bows, denim and crochet, lipstick stains on white shirts (worn with pride); everything you can imagine – and much more – dominated the cobblestone roads of Barcelona, quickly bringing it to the mainstream fashion map.
