Let's talk about pyrite.
That sparkly golden mineral that is said to bring us good fortune, abundance and, well... money. Its energy is powerful, grounding and revitalising, but it's not uncommon for this high-vibrational stone to be subjected to a murky journey on it's way into our homes. As with all crystals and minerals, it's worth asking your retailers or wholesalers where their pyrite is from and, in particular, do they know for sure that it is legally mined. Most pyrite on the market is from Peru, and around 90% of Peruvian pyrite is from the Huanzala mine in Ancash. The truth is, there is only one (relatively small) company with exclusive legal rights to trade the pyrite from this industrial nickel mine, yet Huanzalan pyrite still finds its way into the marketplace in abundance. In January 2022 the mine denounced a nationwide network of organised crime in connection with drug trafficking to be managing the pyrite trade and asked the Peruvian state prosecutor to investigate and act against this illegal network. Unfortunately, pyrite theft at this mine still exists, and as the crystal industry booms, it continues to be a global issue, shrouded with secrecy. We stopped selling pyrite for a while when we discovered these issues, and quickly did the leg work to ensure that our pyrite is clean. We truly believe that a stones journey shapes its energy, it's pretty obvious really. Ironically, pyrite is known as 'fools gold'... don't let it fool you!
