A man's best friend, and so much more...

Just when you think dogs couldn’t get any more adorable: Erin Wilsom’s four-legged companion saved her life this week. The California resident was walking near the Trinity River in the north of the state when she encountered a vicious mountain lion. The creature became aggressive and began swiping and scratching her left shoulder, she told the Sacramento Bee.
Erin explained how, after yelling for help, her dog Eve turned round and attacked the lion. “They battled for a few moments until I heard her cry. The cat had her by the left side of her head. For the next several minutes I tried everything I could to free her.
Eventually I ran to my vehicle for a weapon and flagged down assistance from a kind woman named Sharon. Together we beat at the cat while yelling until my dog was let go,” she wrote on a GoFundMe page to pay for Eva’s vet bills.
Eva’s heroism came at a price: she was very badly wounded. After being rushed to the vet, she was found to have suffered two skull fractures, a puncture to her sinus cavity and severe swelling around her eye.
“Midway through, Eva began convulsing for several minutes at a time. I didn’t think she’d make it every time it started up,” Wilson wrote. “Fortunately she pulled through and received urgent treatment. My dog is my hero and I owe her my life.”
Wilson’s GoFundMe raised enough funds to cover Eva’s medical bills, but she plans to donate any extra funds to charities, including ones that rescue big cats and other large predators.
Not all heroes wear capes – and some have fur.
